Chicks – 1 Week Old 1

The chicks were shipped last Wednesday.  At that point they would have been about 1 day old, so that means they were probably hatched Tuesday or early Wednesday last week.  So now they are 1 week old!  Check out more pics of the chicks.

(I had to take the picture through the window so I wouldn’t wake them up, so sorry for the reflections.)” type=”image” alt=”IMG_20130924_074516_895.jpg” ] [pe2-image src=”” href=”″ caption=”One of my boys, I think … breed?? no clue.I ordered two males, and this is the only chick that I cannot identify the breed of, so my guess it’s one of the males. (I had a list of breeds for 16 of the chicks #17 is a mystery).” type=”image” alt=”IMG_20130925_161243_598.jpg” ] [pe2-image src=”” href=”″ caption=”My other boy, I think.  Breed: Black Sex-Link.  Why do I think it’s a male?  Because this one looks different from all the other Black Sex-Link chicks (note the white spots on the back of his head)” type=”image” alt=”IMG_20130925_161210_894.jpg” ] [pe2-image src=”” href=”″ caption=”Today when I checked on the chicks, I found this little chick on the outside of their swimming pool!  I picked her up and put her back inside.  She ran straight for the food and began chowing down, she didn’t stop for about 10 minutes even staying there when Z and I were nearby.  Apparently she was starving!” type=”image” alt=”IMG_20130925_161053_106.jpg” ] [pe2-image src=”” href=”″ caption=”‘But Mom! I LOVE their food’  Whenever we go in to check on the chicks, Z starts eating their food.  Apparently I don’t feed him enough of his own!  Either that or theirs just tastes better?!?” type=”image” alt=”IMG_20130923_154146_591.jpg” ]

The chicks are busy little beavers now, spending most of their time scratching through the shavings (and filling up the water trough with shavings in the process).  I also find them sleeping, as I did just now when I went to check on them again, just like the second picture – maybe it’s not all about rough nights.
